Don't forget that she can generate a force-field that can block non-ferrous objects as well, and contain a one-megaton nuclear explosion. we see a lot of the testing the Legionnaires go through, and their levels they manage, in LLH 12.4 - 'Electric Youth'.
ReplyDeleteShe's a distant member of the Wold-Newton Family... and strangely enough, she can be triplicated by Sandi's power with no ill effects (she was able to fight effectively as a threesome - and, well, she can engage in intimacies as a triad. Artists... ;-)
Oh, yeah. She can fly with others inside her force-field, so her flight speed may be higher than expected (as she doesn't have to worry about the negative effects of high-speed flight).
DeleteThe problem with the nuclear explosion is that a one-megaton bomb is basically an OV of 38 or 39! That would crank up Jane's powers to something equivalent to "ludicrous strength".
DeleteTherefore, in this game system, you have two choices, neither of them good.
a) crank Jane's power up to the level it would take, making her nigh-unstoppable.
b) explain away the old story as just being basically "wrong" and retcon it.
Either that, or Hero Points could push her power temporarily up to where it was needed. (Hero Points would basically push the power up that high but she'd have to spend 20 HP, which is a lot.)
I'll add the force-field powers and the bonus on triplication in v2 when that comes along.
Halfsies! How about she can boost it up to those levels - but it directly affects her energy and health levels? She could shield against a one-megaton nuke (in Marvel terms, that would be a Class 1000 explosion, or in real life, a 'city-buster') or we could use what's generally considered the standard over there - a multi-kiloton device (Hiroshima was 15 kilotons, Nagasaki 20) or in Marvel terms, a blast of Monstrous intensity. (Here's something scary about those power levels; the Human Torch's flames are more powerful than standard tactical nukes - and his Nova burst, if he threw all of his karma into it, could go Class 1000. That's not the scary part. The scary part is that Marvel heroes are less powerful than the DC guys.
DeleteThat's why I live for character development and wait for special occasions for the slugfests. :-)
Back on track. How about we tone it down a bit (after all, Green Lantern and Jade once used their powers to contain a nuclear bomb burst - but it was a Hiroshima-level bomb back during WWII) and she can do it for moderate level blasts - the lower intensity tactical nukes, the stuff Kim III has now - but not the big boys in the silos? Besides - if I was going to have someone with nukes, I'd have done it already, and that force-protection level can be useful for other explosions and effects
If absolutely necessary (although that's the only way it would happen) could her parents and Penny count as connections to the CIA (although they'd only let that out in the worst of circumstances, especially now)?
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that a character shouldn't be able to use a connection unless they knew about it. Something would have to happen to make Jane aware of the connection, and that hasn't happened yet.
DeleteMakes sense to me.
